Cabbagetown Graffiti - 109/365

Found these on Sunday while I was avoiding the kerfuffle downtown that some of you may have heard of.

I found these, and many other great pieces on Broadcast Lane, just east of Parliament on Carlton.

As I was shooting, a guy on a scooter came down the alley. I mentioned the nice street art, and he said he didn't appreciate the police bring "hooligans" in here to practice their "crime".

I guess he prefers more of an abstinence approach to artistic expression he doesn't approve of.

And on that note, I think I should mention that while I do have some photos and most of a post written about the G20 happy-fun-time, I'm a little tired of it at this point and I may not post it. At least not yet.

I want to think about the whole thing a little more before I shoot my mouth off.

2am Coincidence - 108/365

I ran into Lisa last night after following some bike cops to Queen and Spadina. Despite only taking shots for about 30 minutes, I was getting tired of contributing to the crowds, so I went upstairs for some drinks.

But not before taking this shot of them unleashing their frustration.

Drinks at 3 Speed - 107/365

Apparently the kitchen closes at 11pm at 3 Speed so we had to procure our own sustenance, in the form of pizza.

Steph eagerly awaits more beer, with thoughts of Fire Safety Plan on her mind.

Mark gets the drinks cause he's the only one with money.

Apparently photography makes their faces do this. Steph is concerned and Mark is experiencing a regression to early childhood.

This is King St at 1am on Friday night of the G20. Not many cars, in fact the only one I saw in this moment was the speeding minivan full of cops that almost hit me as it came around the corner.

Cracked - 106/365

This is about 12 hours late, but whatever.

Shot this on my way back from the protest march in Toronto today. On the whole it was an interesting experience and I'm glad I did it, but it was definitely a lot more calm and controlled than I expected. I'll blog about it in more detail later once I've finished shooting it.

Door 15 - 103/365

I didn't realize until just now that there is a door WITHIN that door. It's a meta-door.

Am I blowing your mind?

Thought so.

Coasty the Coaster - 96/365

Coasty got roughed up a bit. Though I imagine that's par for the course when you're a coaster. Just laying around, coasting through life.

It's Rude to Point - 95/365

I'm all for creative forms of relatively harmless vandalism.

Peach Cake Thing - 91/265

It's some kind of peach cake thing, which turned out very tasty. I had it for breakfast. She said it was a flan, but that can't be right.

Water Dog - 86/365

A high shutter speed and frame rate is essential to taking pictures of this dog.

Hot Tub Kid - 83/365

Attempting to fashion a bubble-beard last weekend.

My parents place was pretty busy with three boys under 7 and a 6 month old golden retriever. Lots of running and yelling and jumpin' around. Fun times.

Night Lights - 82/365

I thought they were installing streetcar tracks in front of my place on Parliament, but it seems like at the moment they are just welding them together and stacking them in the street.

Now that I look it up apparently these sections are just to replace the existing rail further north on Parliament. No streetcar for me.

Definitely Not A Flower Photo - 81/365

Tonight.

Tonight I will adventure around the city once more and bring back novel photos of rarely seen spaces and moments. I will, through photography, fully define what it means to be a Torontoian, and it won't have anything to do with this lilac tree at my parents house.

Kitchen Party - 79/365

Being as he obviously knows that the best parts of the party always end up occurring in the kitchen, Cluett opted to get an apartment that is largely made up of kitchen.

I can't explain what's going on here, I can only say that it's obviously awesome.

Under Construction - 69/365

by static416Construction site in the Distillery District.

Wish I had a wider angle lens, this hole is much bigger than it looks.

That's what she said.

In and Out Button - 68/365

by static416Shot on a rail line near the DVP, this another attempt at photoshop.

The better I get at photography, the more I realize that a large portion of it is often post-processing. Sure you need to have a good image to begin with, but in some cases that makes up as little as 50% of the process. The rest is tweaking or outright alteration of the original to get something that looks good.

Though I must say, some of my better shots were the ones that came out of the camera already looking great and required no change. Like this, and this.
