Jumping Spider - 88/365
Monday, June 7, 2010 at 9:58AM Caught this little jumping spider, aka Jumpy McJumpersons, running around my apartment.
At the time I was in a bit of a rush, so I bottled him up for shooting later. He's pretty tiny, only about 3mm high and 4mm long. In the above shot he's sitting on the edge of a empty curry jar.
He's pretty fast too, running around quite a bit, keeping him on the jar was the best way to contain him.
You can see my house key in the background of the above shot, to give you an idea of scale.
I shot all of these with that 100mm macro lens I rented. While the lens was useful for macro shots (obviously) and worked well for the product shoot, I didn't find it too useful outside of that. Trying to use the stabilized version outside at night without a tripod is basically impossible, everything comes out blurry. On top of that I find that the 100mm length is awkward, too short to be a useful telephoto, too long to use in many cases up close.
