More hours in the day
Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 4:03PM
I could really use more hours in the day.
I've been giving myself crap lately for not posting frequently enough. However, the time I usually do that is when I first get to work, and I've decided to do actual work during that time, rather than making up stuff for the internet. This self-imposed restriction means I have to do it on my own time, which there isn't much of at the moment.
I leave for work at 7am and get home at about 6-6:30pm. When you subtract socialization time, gym time, and eating time there isn't much left for sleeping let alone blogging.
On top of all of this I'm looking into going back to school for a Master's Degree on a part-time basis while working full-time. Which made me think that I don't know where exactly I'm going to fit that into my already tight schedule.

So that brings me to my point, we need a longer day. 4 hours longer to be exact.
This would allow me the time I need to get stuff done while still allowing me to sleep. Since the chances of me altering the earths rotation are relatively slim, I'll have to rearrange my week. It would still have 168 hours, but would be six 28 hour days instead of seven regular ones. This isn't my idea, but it's still a good one.

Working the same 40 hours over 4 days instead of 5 would decrease the time I spend commuting. The weekend would seem longer because you'd get up well before sunrise on Saturday, and go to bed at the regular time on Sunday.

I think this is a pretty cool idea and would likely work out well for me because my circadian rhythm is not particularly strong. Unfortunately I don't think my boss would see it that way. To him it would just look like I was skipping work one day a week, which I don't imagine would be received well.
I guess I'll just have to find time somewhere else. I suppose that at the end of September, once my girlfriend leaves for Australia for 8 months, I'll have more time on my hands.
But that will probably just be spent crying into a pillow, so I doubt I'll get much extra done.

You're cute baby. (k)
But seriously, I LOVE the idea of rearranging it to 6x28. If you worked freelance or for yourself, this wouldn't be such a bad idea. Plus, the idea of starving myself of sleep until I'm exhausted and then getting that deep, sweet sleep works for me.
...Of course, I DO get grumpy when I'm tired. And we all know what that's like.
