I now have a kitten!
Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 2:58PM
I've been thinking about getting a cat for quite awhile. Every time I see a kitten I become a blubbering idiot. This is a well known phenomena that anyone with a soul is susceptible too, and was well described by the semi-internet-famous XKCD comic below.

Emma IM'd me on Thursday morning saying that one of the girls she plays soccer with had a 4 week-old kitten that they have to find a home because their other cat was hunting it. These are two of the photos she sent me.

Of course asking for photos of a kitten is slightly pointless. The kitten is going to be cute. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of a kitten that wasn't cute. They are genetically predisposed to being cute.
So I said "Yes! Yes! A millions times yes!" and organized a time and place to pick up the kitten.

She had named it Jackson, thinking it was a boy. But it turns out to be a girl, so I've got to come up with another name. Ideas? I want something original. No Snowball, Boots, Fluffy, Angel, or anything lame like that. I was thinking something more unique, like Spork, or Wobbles, or Crash, or Wysiwyg (Wizzy for short).

Either way, she's very cute. She's litter trained, and eating wet food and kitten milk (it's milk made from ground up kittens believe it or not).

She sleeps a fair bit, but is starting to play, jumping around and practicing her pounces.

The only thing that still remains to be seen is her reaction to my bird, Oz.

I've been trying to have Oz out of his cage a lot more in order for him and the cat to familiarize themselves with each other while the cat is still unable to catch him. The hope is that she'll become accustomed to Oz and not view him as a potential dinner or play-toy. But I guess I'm kinda running the odds on that one.
But anyways, she's a very cute cat, and relatively low-maintenance already compared to some of the other pets I've had in the past. Hopefully by the end of the weekend she'll have a name so she doesn't start to have an identity crisis.

She's just precious!
"Terra"
After earth and the video game character.
"Jude"
"Samantha"
"Dagger"
Those are pretty good names. Better than most that people have suggested.
Jude and Terra are cool. They have been added to consideration.
Name suggestions:
Shakes
Xanadu
MSDOS
Kevin
Hester Prynne
ETA:
She is the cutest little kitten I have ever seen.
Um...if I ever get a kitten, I will name her MSDOS.
That was an amazing name.
But I am too surrounded by my father's adorable kittens to assume my own.
She and he and Jesus and Judas respectively.
Mayo
Names i would call my cats if i had some...
Sasha
Mikka
Alright, it's been decided.
The cats name will be.....
Wizzy (Wysiwyg)
Dundundunnnn
Although chances are I'll still refer to her as "Kitty" like 90% of the time.
