Video - How to defeat aging - aka - Living to 1000

Aubrey de Grey is, in my mind, the most vocal proponent for the scientific investigation of life-extension therapies. He is viewed by some as a crackpot and others as a trailblazer. For the most part, it would seem that the arguments against him are not so much against the science, as against the idea of extending life. Many people, both scientists and the general public, are fundamentally opposed to the idea radical life-extension for a variety of reasons ranging from concerns of over-population, to claiming that it would be like "playing God".

Wikipedia's take on him:
De Grey argues that the fundamental knowledge needed to develop effective anti-aging medicine mostly already exists, and that the science is ahead of the funding. He works to identify and promote specific technological approaches to the reversal of various aspects of aging, or as de Grey puts it, "the set of accumulated side effects from metabolism that eventually kills us,"[5] and for the more proactive and urgent approaches to extending the healthy human lifespan. Regarding this issue, de Grey is a supporter of life extension.

Aside from whether or not Aubrey de Grey is correct in his theories, I believe that any therapy that can reduce or delay the various symptoms associated with aging can be viewed as nothing but a good thing. What reasonable person would vote for Parkinson's, or Alzheimer's?

Below is his speech at TED from 2005.
